Alliance Federal Credit Union is awarding one
$1,000 scholarship for 2010.
|

We encourage all our young members who are
graduating seniors to apply. Each applicant must
be a high school senior with a minimum GPA of
3.0 on a 4.0 scale, bound for a two- or
four-year college or university and a member of
Alliance Federal Credit Union in good standing.
Students who live in our Lubbock County service
region and are not yet members may join the
Credit Union and apply for our scholarship at
the same time.

Our scholarship application is available to pick
up at any of our
locations
or you may download the PDF version. Scholarship
applications will be available to pick up and
download on
Monday, March 1. 2010.
Completed applications must be received no later
than the close of business, Friday, May 21, 2010.
Scholarship recipient will be notified by May
28, 2010.

Qualifications for application include the
following:
• You must be a member of AFCU and be the
primary account holder. This account must be
separate from your parent’s account.
• You must be a graduating high school senior.
• Scholarship recipients for the 2010 school
year must attend college (community, technical,
university or other institution) full time.
• You must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Award recipients must be able to provide
verification of acceptance and/or enrollment in
college.
• Not eligible to apply: AFCU Board of
Directors, AFCU Supervisory Committee, AFCU
employees, AFCU Scholarship Selection Team.
Family members of the above mentioned groups are
eligible to apply.
• AFCU scholarships are non-renewable. Previous
AFCU Annual Scholarship recipients are not
eligible to apply.

• Verification of acceptance and/or enrollment
in college
• Essay - Describe how Alliance Federal
Credit Union has helped you learn financial
responsibility. Give Examples. Also
explain why you are applying for this
scholarship and include any special challenges
you may have.
The recipient will be selected on the basis of
the above listed qualifications by a panel whose
decision will be final. Strict adherence to the
stated rules and qualifications will be
maintained.

What are the specific requirements for
filling out the application?
List all information directly on the application
form provided. Do not expand the application
form onto additional pages or include any
additional paperwork, documents or pictures.
Submit only the following required information
with the completed application:
• Essay must include the
following information: Essay Title, Student’s Name, Student’s Address and
Phone Number
o The essay must be typed in 12-point size type and
single or double spaced on 8-1/2” x 11” white paper with
one-inch margins on all sides. The text of your
essay should be no more than one page or 450
words.
o Spelling and grammar will be considered, and
creativity is encouraged.
o Topic of Essay: “Describe how Alliance Federal
Credit Union has helped you learn financial
responsibility. Give Examples. Also
explain why you are applying for this
scholarship and include any special challenges
you may have."
• Official high school transcript, from the most
recent school attended only. May be included
with the application package or may be sent
directly from your school. Do not send
photocopies of transcripts.
• Verification of acceptance and/or enrollment
in college. You may submit a copy of your
acceptance letter from the college or university
you will be attending.
Submit only the information required. IF MORE
INFORMATION IS INCLUDED OR INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT
FOLLOWED, THE APPLICATION WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
How many credits are full time?
Each school determines the number of credits
that constitute full time attendance. This may
vary from one institution to another.
We recommend you check with your
school.
Are any need-based scholarships being awarded
by AFCU?
No. All scholarships are merit based.
On what criteria is the AFCU Annual
Scholarship selected?
• Community and/or School Service
• Leadership Potential
• Academic Achievement
Selection will be made without regard to the
applicant's race, color, ethnic origin,
religious belief, sex, marital status, or
physical handicap. Selection is, however,
limited to members of AFCU.
When is my application due?
The 2008 completed application packet must be submitted
and postmarked no later than May 16, 2008.
When will I know if I have been selected?
All students submitting a completed application
will be notified by telephone or mail no later
than May 28, 2010.
Can my application materials be returned to
me?
All materials submitted become the property of
Alliance FCU and will not be returned.
How are the scholarship funds dispersed?
A $1,000 check is presented to the recipient and
made payable directly to the recipient. Funds
may be used for tuition, school housing and/or the
purchase of school books, supplies, etc.

Is it acceptable to hand-carry my application
to the Credit Union?
Yes. Applications will be accepted at each
location by the Branch Manager. Address the
envelope to AFCU Scholarship Committee.
Can I send application items in separately?
No. The completed application form MUST be sent together in one package
in order to be considered. |
