Alliance Federal Credit Union has implemented a
Multi-Factor Authentication system for CU Online
Banking. Federal regulations require financial
institutions to increase the security for
members when conducting transactions over the
Internet. Multi-authentication methods that
depend on more than one factor to determine your
identity are more reliable and better deterrents
of fraud. Effective authentication systems are
essential to prevent money laundering, identity
theft and fraud.
This system will make it significantly more
difficult for a hacker to access your credit
union account(s) and steal your money and/or
personal data. These new controls are
designed to help you recognize when you are
communicating with the valid Internet Account
Access system and to help that system ensure
that it is communicating with you.
A system of this type is required due to
Internet banking regulations being enforced by
the National Credit Union Administration, Board
of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the
Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and
the Office of Thrift Supervision. In short, this
guidance states that, single-factor
authentication (like our old login method) is
not sufficient for online banking systems when
financial transactions are being performed over
the Internet.

Recently, there have been multiple e-mail fraud
attempts, known as "Phishing”, that were
initiated via e-mail sent to both the general
public and to some credit union members that
appeared to be from Verified by VISA, NCUA
and/or various other credit union institutions.
This false e-mail asked for the recipient to
click on a link to verify their credit union
account registration. If the recipient proceeded
to do so, the link directed them to a false
website and asked for their credit union account
number and PIN, along with other personal
information.
Alliance Federal Credit Union and NCUA does not
ask credit unions members for such personal
information. Anyone who receives an e-mail that
purports to be from Alliance Federal Credit
Union, NCUA or any other credit union
institution and asks for account information
should consider it to be a fraudulent attempt to
obtain their personal account data for an
illegal purpose and should not follow the
instructions in the e-mail.
Look for these red flags in the email:
- Asks you to provide personal
information such as your bank account
number, an account password, credit card
number, PIN number, mother’s maiden
name, or Social Security number. Visa
will never ask you for this information
by email.
- Does not address you by your name.
- No confirmation of the company that
does business with you, such as
referencing a partial account number.
- Warns that your account will be shut
down unless you reconfirm your financial
information.
- Warns that you’ve been a victim of
fraud.
- Spelling or grammatical errors.
If you responded to such an e-mail and
provided any confidential account information,
please notify your credit union immediately of
the scheme. You should also change your
account’s PIN, and take any additional action
recommended by your credit union to protect your
account.
At Alliance Federal Credit Union we take your
online security and privacy very seriously. We
will NEVER ask
you for personal information such as credit card
numbers, PINs or online IDs in an email. We
will not request that you update “lost
security information” online, nor will we
threaten you with account closure or disable
your card if you do not respond.
If you feel that you have received
a fraudulent phishing e-mail purportedly from
NCUA please forward the entire e-mail message to
Phishing@ncua.gov.
Forward any emails claiming to be
from Visa or your Visa card issuer asking you to
provide your personal account information to
phishing@visa.com. You can also forward any
suspicious email to the Better Business Bureau
at
nophishing@cbbb.bbb.org, and immediately
call your issuing financial institution.
Additionally, you can file formal complaints
concerning any suspected fraudulent e-mail with
the Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC)
www.ic3.gov. The IFCC is a partnership
between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and
the National White Collar Crime Center.

what information is of most and least interest,
determining technical design specifications, and
identifying system performance or problem areas.
No personal information, such as your name and
address, is collected or used for this analysis.
We collect no information which would identify

We automatically collect and store only the
following information about your visit:
The Internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com"
if you use a private Internet access account, or
"myschool.edu" if you connect from a
university's domain) and IP address (which is a
number that is automatically assigned to your
computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from
which you access out website.
The date and time you access our site.
The pages you visit and the result of the
request, such as an image or query.
Other status codes and values resulting from the
Web server responding to the request received:
HTTP status code, Windows NT code, number of
bytes sent, number of bytes received, duration
(in seconds) to fulfill the request, server port
number addressed, and protocol version.

When you send us personally identifying
information, for example, in an electronic mail
message containing a question or comment or by
filling our a form that e-mail's us this
information, we use this information to fulfill
or respond to your requests. We may store these
requests to provide us with information for
future improvements to our website. We may
forward your request to other Alliance FCU or
affiliated organization's employees who are
better able to respond to your request. Alliance
FCU may also use this information to help us do
our work. We do not create individual profiles
with the information you provide. Alliance FCU
does not give, sell or transfer personal
information to third parties, unless required by
law.
